Playing with playdough is the perfect indoor activity for when its freezing outside or when it’s raining. That’s why we’re sharing a super quick and easy playdough recipe that you can make at home with your little ones. Making your own playdough is not only fun, but it’s also inexpensive and lets the kids get creative with colours, scents etc!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup salt
- 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 2 cups boiling water
- 2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil (coconut oil works too)
- Food colouring, optional (gel or even liquid)
- small sized plastic bags
- Essential oil (optional)
How you’ll make it:
- Whisk the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a bowl.
- Pour the boiling water into a measuring jug and then stir in the oil and a few drops of food colouring and your favourite essential oil if wanted.
- Pour onto the dry ingredients and mix until everything is well combined and the mixture is sticky.
- Set aside to cool for 10-15 minutes.
- Once cooled, tip the mixture out onto the bench (or onto a chopping board) and knead vigorously for a few minutes until the dough is smooth and no longer sticky.
- Store in plastic sealable bags or wrap it in plastic wrap so it doesn’t dry out.
